This study presents a forecast and analysis of the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) (or APEJ) paid music service provider (MSP) market. It includes user and revenue forecasts for IP-based pay-per-download and subscription services. This study covers developments in the paid MSP market in six key markets, namely, Australia, India, Korea, the People'''s Republic of China (PRC), Singapore, and Taiwan plus the rest of Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or ROAPROAPEJ). It also identifies and discusses the factors driving or inhibiting the adoption of these services across the APEJ region.
In the last 24 months, several paid MSPs have appeared on the radar screen across APEJ. The year-over-year (year-on-yearYoY) comparison shows that the IP-based paid MSP revenue and subscribers enjoyed strong growth in APEJ in 2005. However, a closer look shows that, apart from Korea and Australia, the adoption of paid MSPs in APEJ has been lagging behind," says Claudio Checchia, research manager, Consumer Markets Research, IDC Asia/Pacific. "The fact that the mobile music services have enjoyed tremendous growth in APEJ only increases the pressure on the IP-based music stores. The paid MSP market is expected to undergo a round of consolidations, restricting the number of MSPs to selected MP3 manufacturers, telecommunications operators, and broadband service providers (service providerSPs)," he adds.
