The Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) program intends to develop and field a number of new, high-tech systems designed to increase battlefield effectiveness. In 2002, the U.S. Army awarded The Boeing Company and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) to act as the Lead Systems Integrator (LSI) for Future Combat Systems.
To overcome issues related to the acquisition of FCS, the Army identified and made adjustments to the program, in July 2004. Criticism of the FCS program has also been voiced regarding issues around the LSI acquisition strategy. The program continues to move forward despite the mentioned issues.
